Most Ducati forks come standard with 10wt oil. Aftermarket suspension shops typically use 5wt or 7wt oil. I’ve found the 7wt oil to be a good compromise. Why does oil weight matter? Because it effects the damping characteristics of your forks. Oil that is too heavy can create a harsh ride. Oil that is too light can create damping problems. Of course, oil height, spring rate, and suspension settings also effect how your suspension works, so it’s a complicate formula. I recommend new fork oil every 3 years or 20,000 miles. Does fork oil age? Yes it does, just like you. Use our fork oil gauge for measuring your oil height. Measure the height of the oil already in your forks and duplicate the height. Oil height varies by model, variant and year of your Ducati. You’ll need 2 bottles to replace the oil in 1 set of forks.
